Features

Prestacycle UniBlock Pro Cassettes

Prestacycle UniBlock Pro Cassettes are a single-piece unit machined from a solid block of cold-forged Chrome Molybdenum alloy steel, then heat-treated, tumble-finished and electroplated for added durability and low-friction operation. ChroMoly alloyed steel is significantly stronger than materials used in other Cassettes including top-end OEM Cassettes and will last longer. The single block design offers 3D structure to optimize strength and distribute forces. This allows Prestacycle to remove more unnecessary material, making our cassettes lighter than even top Manufacturer models that use fast-wearing aluminum big cogs.

Better Engagement, Smoother Operation

Single block design insures the freehub has MORE engagement no matter what gear you are in. Single cogs from other Cassettes can cut-like-a-knife into freehubs. By increasing and distributing engagement across the entire freehub in any gear, we are reducing torsional loads thus reducing freehub wear and insuring lowest rolling resistance within the freehub. This also makes our Cassettes the safest to use with high-end alloy freehubs.  Without any spacers in UniBlock, there is nothing to lose, and nothing you can install incorrectly. Faster cleaning on and off the bike, with quicker, mistake-free installation insures you are ready to go!

New Twin-UniBlock Design

NEW Gravel & MTB Cassettes use a 7075-T6 Aluminum single block for the largest two cogs. Still only one spacer exists so there is no possibility of confusion. When aluminum is used for cogs as big as chainrings, forces are adequately distributed across many teeth for long life. 36 or greater teeth Aluminum cogs will wear as long as your smaller chainring on your crankset. This combination of materials will save up to 1/2 a pound or more from OEM Gravel cassettes!

New Advanced Shifting Technology

Prestacycle now introduces UniBlock Pro. Our new Professional cassettes create a new generation of compatibility and enhanced shifting performance. UniBlock Pro is our own unique, all-new shifting profile that provides shifting characteristics equaling or improving upon shifting performance for every major brand.

We’ve performed extensive analysis of all major shifting systems. Our results show that due to how narrow chains have become, chains offer only small differences that contribute to shifting performance.  Meanwhile, a great deal of varying technologies exist in cassette tooth profiles from major drivetrain manufacturers creating specific benefits in one system or another. By examining the demands and benefits to each particular drivetrain, we’ve been able to combine all the different benefits of all drivetrains using one new design.  Where one OEM drivetrain has one benefit over another, our new design facilitates the fastest, smoothest possible shifting to all systems while minimizing the impact to power delivery.

Going deeper, we’ve optimized every single tooth pairing on every cassette. A shifting profile from a 16T-to-17T cog is different from a 15T-to-17T cog on a different cassette. These exact-match pairings provide the highest possible speed and reliability in shifting. Even shifting under load is maximized.

Cross-compatibility of shifting systems*

Since the advent of 11 Speed, all major shifting systems have had nearly identical cog spacing. At it’s core, this has proven itself to better support racing and professional service. The days of a rider not being able to take a replacement wheel from Neutral support because they had a different drivetrain are long over**.

On UniBlock Pro, our new tooth profiles not only provide maximization of shifting technologies, but also are profiled to insure all micro-variations in cog spacing are encompassed by tooth thickness. Stronger ChroMoly steel allows us to vary tooth thickness to provide gap compliance while maintaining strength so that each cog spacing exactly matches all three major drivetrain profiles. Our same Cassettes enable the best possible shifting and running performance on any drivetrain..

UniBlock Pro Design enhancements also allow adapting newer standards to old, such as adding 11 & 12 speed to Shimano 10 speed wheels (with our optional lockring), or adding a shifting system to a wheelset or direct drive trainer that does not otherwise support that drivetrain.

HG11 Profile – also fits HG10 wheels with our optional lockring

UniBlock Pro Design enhancements also allow adapting newer standards to old, such as adding 11 & 12 speed to Shimano 10 speed wheels (with our optional lockring), or adding a shifting system to a wheelset or direct drive trainer that does not otherwise support that drivetrain.

** 11 and 12 speed only.  10 speed shifting systems do not have compatible spacing between shifting system brands.  Prestacycle cross-compatibility does NOT apply to 10 speed cassettes.

Installation notes

Always adjust shifting for any new Cassette

While Tooth gaps and shifting profiles are optimized for all systems, re-adjustment may be necessary. Various brands of freehubs can cause small variations in cassette positioning.

Confirm Compatibility with your derailleur

Not all derailleurs are compatible with all gear ranges. Please verify if your derailleur is compatible with the largest tooth size, and cog gaps that you are ordering. Electronic shifting systems are the most picky about working with gear ranges not offered by the Original Manufacturer.

Limit screw settings can vary with any cassette / wheel change

DI2 installation instructions may suggest “one full turn” of the limit screws past the limit. We have found this negatively affects the shifting of any brand cassette as it controls the range for each shift. We highly recommend setting the limits screws to offer no-more-than regular free operation of the min/max gears.

Optional Cassette spacer is included

Prestacycle 11 and 12 Speed Cassettes include a 1mm spacer which can optionally be used to move the cassette farther from the spokes. Different wheelsets, different brands of hubs, variations with custom built wheels using different construction, the spacing of the derailleur hanger and many more factors can all determine if the spacer is needed, optional or specifically should not be used.

Reasons to use this spacer:

  • The Chain/derailleur is too close to the spokes when in the largest cog
  • The gear range is outside of the derailleur min/max range
  • Moving the cassette outward improves the bike's chainline
  • Moving the cassette outward makes it more compatible with wheel swaps

Reasons to NOT use this spacer:

  • The spacer pushes the freehub engagement off the end of the freehub
  • The gear range is outside of the derailleur min/max range
  • You are using our optional lockring to put 11/12 speed on a 10 speed wheel
  • The smallest cog is too close to the frame's chainstay or rear dropout
